test

Today in human geo we took our test. We could use our blog wich was good because i had all my information i needed for the test. I think i would have done good on the test without the blog. Im excited to see what i get on the test.

  • He had a conflict with Rajiv Gandhi (who took over as Prime Minister from his mother Indira after she was assassinated in 1984) and started his own party – Rashtriya Samajwadi Congress.

review

Today in Human Geo we learned about all the different countries and world leaders. We reviewed all that we learned and i think i really absorbed the information. Its unfortunate that we have a big test tomorrow since this is the week before exams and it would have been nice to be able to study this week but i had to study human geo. It takes a while for me to study big tests like that because i have to make note cards and really let the information sink in. It would really be unfortunate if this test brought down my grade before exams.

countries and their leaders

Today in human geo we learned some interesting new facts about world leaders and their countries. We learned that the leader of Germany is pretty much the most powerful woman in the world.  Today Nancy corrected one of the names on the board because it was spelled wrong. Thought it was really cool ho she could help us during class. Im fascinated by what were learning and I'm excited to learn more tommorow.

bball game

Today i wasnt in human geo class because i had a basketball game at NDP. We lost the game in overtime but i scored the winning points to get us into overtime. It was a really good game and our team played pretty well. Only thing we could've done was box out better. Wish i could've been in class today. I will be asking my friend what we did in a couple minutes.

new material

Today in Human geo we first went over our tests. The ones i got wrong i made a stupid mistake on one and then the other one i just didn't know. After that we started learning about different countries and how they act. We then listened to a different version of mickey mouse sing all the countries in the world. It was kind of annoying but it was funny at the same time. Im actually interested in what were learning now so I'm excited to learn more.

re take

Today in Human Geo I retook my test that i didn't do well on. This time i took it i studied the right material and spent along time on it. I ended up getting an 80 on the test and it moved my grade up to a 78. I am glad that it moved my grade up because i worked hard for studying for the test. For the rest of the class we could do homework or whatever we wanted too so i made notecards for my biology midterm.

test

Today in Human geo we took our test. i think i did ok on it. I studied a lot last night. I knew most of the material on the test but i mixed some of the religions up i think. Hopefully this test will bring up my grade because i really need it.

This is what i wrote right before i got the test back. Ended up getting a 60 on the test and that is just unexceptable. I shouldn't be failing the test when I'm putting this much time into studying. I found out that the other class Mr. Schick teaches was able to get a project instead of a test. I was talking to my friend about it and she was very glad she was getting a project because she knew she would fail the test if she had to take one. She then said she could get a better grade on the project. Thats were I'm confused because one class is going to get better grades because they are able to do a project and my class has to take a test which was very difficult. Im not even passing this class and if I'm not passing by mid quarters I'm probably going to ask to switch classes because Mr. Schicks teaching style is just not working for me.

review

today in human geo we had a great review session. Sam and connor were the teachers again and we went over all the stuff we needed to know for the test tomorrow. I think hat if i study hard fro the test tonight i can get an A. I tried participating a little more then usual today since i know most of the material. I answered a question that was what divided the nations, it was cultural characterization. I also learned that Hinduism was tdisvovered by anyone. Today was very affective and I'm glad we reviewed today.

slideshow

Today in Human geo we first learned about what people in the US call soft drinks pop, soda, coke, or other. We talked about that for a while and how some people migrated down to florida and thats why people call it soda near the beach because thats where people want to reitre. We then learned more about all of our religions were learning and that jews are less that 1% of the population. We also learned that there are 3 parts two civilization: language, culture and ethnic croups.

Debate

Today in Human geo we had a very good discussion. First Kevin was anchorage of our class and asked us questions on all of our notes. Since everyone didn't want Kevin asking the questions we asked if Sam and Connor could ask the questions, Mr. Schick said that it was ok if they could ask the questions and so they did. After they went over our notes we talked about the boming and ISIS. This was a very good conversation because it was nice hearing everyones input on everything. After that we watched a very sad video about a little girl who was living a normal life in Syria and then they were getting bombed and she eventually got her dad taken away from her and exactly a year later she looks very ill and doesn't even want to blow out her birthday candles. I hope nothing like this happens to us in America.

talk/notes

Today in human geo we went over more about buddisam and judaism. I didnt bring home my copy book with all my notes in it but i do remember some. I remember that when you are Buddhist you meditate. That if you can't turn off your 'monkey mind' then you can raise your hand and someone will come around and hit you with a stick to help u focus. We also talked about that how if the holocaust never exisisted then the population of Jews would be a lot higher. We also talked about ISIS and the Paris attacks. I think we should really try and keep an eye on ISIS because this is really getting out of hand.

questions

Today in human geo we were asked to answer these questions:

The little fat guy is not a representation of Buddha. His name was P'utai and he was a Chan(Chinese Zen) Buddhist monk. He is often depicted as being fat and happy because even though he lived an ascetic lifestyle he found freedom through the teachings of Buddha.I found this answer on daily buddhism, a website.  I think i like the fat guy more because i see him more often and he looks nicer then the other skinny guy.

My score was a 15 out of 20, i thought that the test was hard, but i realized that most of the Quaran answeres were like inspirational quotes and the bible was more stories.

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. this means only follow jesus
  2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. this means there is no other god besides our god. we can't make anything else as good as him.
  3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. this means you shouldn't be saying "oh my god".
  4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. This means you should go to church every sunday.
  5. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. This means you shouldn't be mean to your mom or dad and always respect them.
  6. Thou shalt not kill. this means you shouldn't kill anyone
  7. Thou shalt not commit adultery. this means you shouldn't cheat on your spouse.
  8. Thou shalt not steal. this means you shouldmt steal anything
  9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. This means you shouldn't lie about anything to your friend
  10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s. This means to stay loyal to your husband or wife and treat everyone the way you want to be treated.

In human geo today we were suppose to answer these questions :
out of the world, this is the percent of people that follow them.
Christian 31.4%, Muslim 23.2%, Hindu 15%, Buddhist 7.1%, and Jewish 0.2%.

Abraham was given a huge position in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. In Judaism, Abraham is considered to be the founding father of the covenant. In Christianity, Abraham is more of a person to look up to, not worship. In Islam, Abraham was claimed by Muhammad.

To get a priest to pray for you, you would have to give them money this would be called an "indulgence" Martin Luther probably objected to indulgences because if you are a priest you should want to pray for people who need prayers. My research led me to believe that indulgences are not a good thing and I do not support them.

The Hajj is an Islamic pilgrimage to Mecca. If you are healthy and have enough money to take a trip to Mecca as a Muslim adult you have to. Hajj is annual so it happens every year and is a big deal for Muslims. The date of Hajj is determined by the Islamic calendar.

The four basic Vedic texts in use by Hindus are the Rig-Veda,Yajur-Veda, Sama-Veda, and Atharva-Veda. The Rig-Veda is divided into ten books and has 1028 hymes. Yajur-Veda is divided into two sections. The Sama-Veda consists of songs and chants to be sung durring worship. The Artharva-Veda Contains hymns, mantras and incantations.

I am glad that we did this today because it was cool learning about the different religions

Wednesday, November 11, 2015

Today in Human geo we took a survey about your teaching.  I answered the survey 100% accuratley on what i thought was right. After we did the survey we learned about different countries. We learned that most fights are caused by religion and that they are very dangerous. I like what were learning in class today and i hope we learn more stuff just like it.

sick day

I wasn't in school today because i was sick. Instead of going to school i laid home all day and tried to do some homework. I am feeling better which is good and i will probably be going to school tomorrow. I am going to have to make up a lot of work but i would rather do that go to school sick and make everyone else sick. My class hanst even had Human Geo yet so this is going to be early. Sorry for the short blog i didn't do much today.

Thursday, November 5, 2015

Today in human geo we took our test. I was happy because we could use our blog. The test was kind of difficult but i think i did ok. I studied a lot so i think i should get a good grade. After i took the test i did my math homework and then i got ready for the fire drill thing. I hope i really do well on this test because i need the grade.

Wednesday, November 4, 2015

Today in Human Geo we got a free period to do whatever we wanted. I first wrote this blog, then did my english homework. for the test tomorrow i am nervous because if i don't do well then that grade will stay for a while. I think that if i study i will do well because i really payed attention for the video and i have been studying a lot. I really hope i do well on the test so i can start off the quarter with a good grade.

Video response

Today in human geo we finished the video and talked about it. I think it was a good class because everyone put lots of info in and really understood the topic. When Mr. Schick asked us if we think that we should help those people i thought about it and i think that we shouldn't care as much as the video is trying to make us. I think that us interfering with all these other countries is making people not like America. If India really had a problem with the birth rate, the men would stop forcing their wives to have children. IN conclusion, i think we should all back off the topic and not be as invloved as the video wants us to be.

Monday, November 2, 2015

Today in human geo we started to watch the youtube video but it wouldn't load. We then went over some of our notes for the rest of class. We went through all the countries and there different cultures. We talked about India and how the men burn there women if they don't have boy babies. How Japans fertility rate is so low that one school only has one child in it. And we talked about how Japan and China don't really like each other. I think that today was a good review and I'm happy we did it.

Reilly Cisar                                                       Kiva Project                                        10-28-15

When I went onto the Kiva website, two people really stuck out in my mind was, Ruth’s goal to buy land, and Francis’ goal is that he wants money to buy a motorcycle so he can bring produce to the market.
Ruth is a youthful, 40-year-old farmer from Kabati, a remote village in the Thika area of Kenya where people live in shanties made from whatever materials they can find, usually sheets of corrugated tin. According to residents, the people of Kabati are forgotten or ignored by the county government of Thika. But within the remote village of Kabati, Ruth is working hard to pull herself out of the dismal conditions. She has four children which she loves and cares for, but she needs help. These are the main reasons why I would want to raise money for her. She is a hard worker, and wants more for her family. When I think about poverty, I think about our own country, even Baltimore. There are people struggling everywhere so it is important to do as much as you can, so that globally we can be a strong world. When one country is doing bad, it affects all the other countries. For example, EBOLA, when this came to our country it threatened our health. So its important that we all work together.

Francis is a role model, and a mentor and an inspiration to many young farmers in his village because of his resilience despite personal challenges, because of his passion to support his children as a primary caregiver. Living conditions in the Kericho area are very tough and you need to have tough skin in order to survive. Francis has always shown the resilience to beat all odds. This is why I think he deserves to have a motorcycle to be able to drive to the market. If he is given this gift he will provide for others. Like Ruth, he is a hard worker and wants more for himself and his community.

When I went over the two people I decided to pick Ruth. I think I picked her because she has four kids that also needed to be fed, loved and cared for with that money. I think she will be able to do a better job of taking care of her kids. I am also concerned about her kids. I have two brothers and I cannot imagine my mom having to provide for all of us by herself.

video 2

Today in human geo class we watched the video on India. I was even more shocked at all the facts that we learned today.  I think it is really sad how all these people in india are like forced to have a certain number of kids. I think the government shouldn't monitor it and just let whatever happenen. I think that would be the best idea and it would all work out. I am so glad i live in america were woman have a lot more freedom then people in India.

Video

Today in human geo class we learned some very disturbing things. First we learned that in India men burn there wives for not having boys. And thats not even the worst thing. The husbands won't even get in trouble for it.  Since their marriages are usually not there choice, the husbands don't really car about there wives. we also learned that the women will usually get an abortion if the woman husband wants  boy and she finds out that its a girl. In conclusion, i think that this topic is really sad and i wish it never existed.

KIVA 2

Today in human geo we talked more about our extra credit. We talked about that for 10 minutes and then we got the rest of the class to do whatever we wanted to. I first listened to music with marisa and then i got my math homework done and my english homework. It was a fun class period and i am very happy that we have the chance to get 15 points of extra credit.

kiva

Today in human geo we learned about a new website called Kiva. This website helped people who needed money. You would first make a loan on 25 dollars to the person you choosed on the website. after you make the deposit, the person will eventually pay you back the 25 dollars. Then you can withdraw the 25 dollars or use it for another person you choose on the website. We learned that we could get extra points for human geo by loaning money to someone or just writing about someone on our blog. I am defneitly doing this and i hope most of the class does so i can get more extra credit points.

test

Today in Human Geo we took a test. I studied a good amount for the test but it was still very hard. I had no idea there was going to be specific numbers that i had to memorize for random places. i think i did well on the front of the test but everything else was extremly difficult. I hope the test doesn't bring down my grade that much and i guess i know that i have to study more specific things for the next test. Hoping my blogs might be able to keep up my grade so it won't go down that much.

review

Today in Human Geo we reviewd for our upcoming test on thursday. We reviewed some terms that are on the test. We also talked about the PSA's and that we shouldnt be scared for them. It made me feel better because i was kind of nervous. I am glad that we went over the terms for the test because that makes if easier to study for me. I think that if i study for this test i will do very well.

CIA website review

Today in Human Geo we went over the CIA fact book. We finished the power point and talked about different kinds of poverty and the things that the government decides on to decide if they need to help this person because they are poor. Mr. Schick made sure everyone knew how to get the right answers from the factbook and he also wanted to make sure that we were getting the right answers. This class was very useful because i really know how to use the CIA website.

CIA website

Today in Human Geo we began the class with connor being upset about his shadow. Connor was really excited to have a shadow but when he went up to go get his shadow they told him that he didn't have one anymore. Connor came back very upset but he got over it. We the were able to use our computers for the first time!! We went onto the CIA website where we watched a power point and looked up different countries and information to answer the questions on the slides. Kevin had to work with me because he forgot his computer and he kept raising his hand before i got the chance haha. Today was fun and i am glad that we got to go on the CIA website because i learned a lot from it.

pop quiz

Today in human geo we took a pop quiz. I got one wrong and i was very mad because i knew all the stuff on the video and now since its out of 15 its going to bring  my grade down a lot. Other then that, we reviewed the video more and talked about the last of globalization. We took notes on the last part of globalization and then i had to leave early for a soccer game. We played NDP and we tied them in over time. It was a good game because there team was very good. Even though i didn't do so well on the quiz, today was a good class and i got a lot of good notes written down.

review

Today in Human geo class we reviewed what we were talking about the video we watched yesterday. We talked about what we thought about it and i thought that it wasn't as bad as it sounds. The people in Indonesia are used to have that pay check life so yes, when someone from the US where they get lots of food and have showers and everything then go to Indonesia, there going to think its very bad. The indonesia people have no idea what its like outside of Indonesia so they don't care as much as the people going there to experiment. I think they should get paid 2 dollars so that they can save up a little more and some days have more to eat or an medicine when there sick. This topic has a lot of different opinions but i think my sums it up.

Monday, September 28, 2015

Nike Video

Today in Human Geo class we watched a video on Nike sweatshops. A guy went to Indonesia to find out how the people that worked there survived on such little money. I think that the people should get more money after they worked. I don't believe that its a bad idea for them to work i just think that they should earn more money. It was shocking that the guy that went there and lived on the Indonesians wage lost 25 pounds from not eating enough. It seemed like they were having an awful time. After all, i hope that Nike changes there amount of money they give the sweatshop workers because they do work hard and they should get a lot more money then they are getting now a days.

globalization

In the beginning of class today we switched seats. I like my new seat and i am glad we switched. We talked about globalization and looked at pictures that showed globalization. We learned that Greece and China would exchange silk for olive oil. We then looked at a picture with a Philippines woman and a doll that was suppose to represent Jesus. We also talked about how Mr. Schicks sister in law had an american girl doll book based on her. I thought that was really cool because i used to love american girl dolls. I am really interested in learning more about that.

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Today in Human Geo we got our test back. I though that i did ok. We went over the test which really helped. I corrected my test and i marked what i got wrong, right. I made sure i had all the right answers down so when we take the final i will get a good grade and be able to study. We had two shadows in my class and they were really nice. I am excited to learn more and get good grades. At the end of the class i think that i actually learned more from going over my test and learning from my mistakes.

Monday, September 21, 2015

globalization

Today in class we were talking about globalization and people. We were looking at a picture and we had to decide what we thought about it. I put down in my notes that it looked like a chinese food place that sold a lot of different fast food restaurants. We started talking about how all the people in China are getting obese because all these new fast food restaurants are popping up in China. They are eating to much of the food and the people there are becoming fat. We also talked about how most of the kids there make clothes that we wear. We then all looked at the tags on our shirts and shes and saw most of them were made from China, Thailand, or Japan. Today was a very fun Human Geo class and i can't wait to get my test back.

Thursday, September 17, 2015

Todays human geo class was very interesting. The video we watched really interested me because i didn't think our world was moving that fast. When i saw the thing about how in 2049 there would be a computer that was smarter than the world. Another fact that i thought was really cool was about how many babies were born during the duration of the slide show. The third amazing fact was that there are more indian honor students that the US has kids. I really liked todays class because i learned a lot of new things i never have even heard of you before.

test

Today in Human geo class we took a test. I thought I did really well. The only thing i forgot was what idiot meant a while ago. I was mad because i studied that last night. The test wasn't to hard but it wasn't too easy and I'm glad that i studied last night because i wouldn't have done well without all that time i took studying. Cant wait to see what i got on the test.

review

Today in human geo we reviewed for our test tommorow. We finished up the slides and wrote down all of our homework. When we were done with the slides we started talking about death penalties and how they should be used and which ones are the best. I think that the poison penalty was the best because is not as painful as the others and the human being doesn't go through that much pain. We talked about Vietnam and how people were drafted into the war. Mr. Schick told us that everyone had a number and if you had the number that they picked you went to war. Then he explained some ways people tried to get out of it like hurting themselves or making excuses or running across the border to Canada. Todays class was actually pretty fun and i think i am very prepared for our test tomorrow.

Monday, September 14, 2015

Today in human geo Mr. Schick went over our vocabulary that we needed to put in our blog the night before. He went over all the definitions just to make sure we had it right in our copy book. He told us that it was his wifes birthday this past weekend and made a joke about a student because she couldn't do her homework and write the blog. Mr. Schick also explained details about our test on wednesday. I was studying for the test at the end of the class. Todays class helped me prepare for our test on wednesday.

 Socrates:
Death of socrates:
Socratic method:
Idiot: Someone who acts in a self-defeating or significantly counterproductive way./
These vocal words were very interesting to learn about because most of them i had never even heard of.

Facts about Messages to Garcia

Today in Human Geo we learned lots of new facts about Messages to Garcia. We watched the Messages to Garcia movie and learned about some of the words that we didn't know about like what a stenographer is. We learned that it is when a reporter or a court person writes in a different symbols because they are forced to write so fast. The letters look like hieroglyphics from the Egyptians i don't know how anyone could read them. We also learned that the highest mountain is North America, Mckinley, was just renamed Denali. This relates to the story because Mckinley was one of the in the story when it happened. He was the president and was shot. Today was really exciting because i led learning all of the new material.

5 things we could improve on

        1. The fist thing that I would like to accomplish at John Carroll is to get an A in math. I would like to get an A in math because i am in a hard class and it would be a big accoplishmemt if i got an A.
        2. I would also like to make the Varsity lacrosse team. Lacrosse is my favorite sport and i really want to make varsity so i can play hard teams.
        3. Meet friends from other schools. I wan to meet a lot of people and become friends with them because it isn't going to hurt you if you have more friends.
        4. Get recruited by a college for lacrosse. This has always been one of my main goals in life. I would like to get recruited by a college in California or Florida.
5.Go to a lot of football games . I love going to football games because i like to watch football and support my team. I cant wait for the CHC vs. Jc game tonight.

Messeges to garcia 2

Today Human Geo was very fun. At first we talked about the words that we didn't understand in the Message to Garcia story. After we went over the definitions of the words we didn't know, Mr. Schick answered any questions we had but of course we didn't have any. Then Mr. Schick told us that we needed to talk more because we never raise our hand. For the rest of the class we talked about whatever we wanted and i started talking to Christian about our scrimmage against his team yesterday. Todays class was very fun and I'm glad that i read the Messages to Garcia yesterday.

Messeges to garcia

Today in Human Geo we read a very interesting story called A Message to Garcia. It was about a mans opinion of people and how they acted. In the beginning of class Mr. Schick told everyone that their emails worked or didn't work. If their emails didn't work he helped them set it up and he told us that we didn't need to send him anymore emails witch was a relief.  The story that we read was very interesting because it told another persons point of view of his society. I learned that you shouldn't ask questions you should just listen. Overall today was very interesting and I can't wait for tomorrow.

Set up day

Today in Human Geo we got a lot of things done. Mr. Schick helped everyone set up their blogger account and made sure everyones was working right. He explained the rules again for Sam, who was absent the day he told them. Some students couldn't do their homework last night because their blogger wasn't working so Mr. Schick helped them set up their whole blogger account. He taught us a lesson to never leave your computer out where anyone can take it by blogging, "I just went to the bathroom and it was amazing" on a students computer while they went to the bathroom. Mr. Schick told us what we were going to be learning in the next few days and that it would be very interesting. He made sure everyone had their copy book and they did! Over all today wasn't the funnest but we got a lot of things done.

first day

The first thing I learned today was how to find my Human Geography classroom. After I finally got to class, I learned a little bit about the subject of Human Geography. Human Geography is not just the study of the world, its the study of different cultures and languages. I learned how to set up my blogger account, and how to navigate around to find my homework. I watched when Mr. Schick threw a copy book across the room to demonstrate that it wouldn't break unlike a notebook pad. We walked to Mr.Shick's real office, and talked to an interesting student playing the guitar. The student told us about his cat stickers on his computer, and what each one of the stickers meant to him. After we walked back to our classroom, Mr.Schick explained that we should do every blog because it will end up being a big part of our grade. Even though we didn't learn much during our first class, I had a lot of fun.
